| What sort of surface prep is needed? Our aluminum canvas will arrive with an "angel hair" finish that facilitates paint "bite". Our encaustic artists will usually apply a base coat of oil paint and let it dry before starting. Other artists usually apply a base coat of their chosen medium. Some go straight to paint and may or may not leave the canvas partially exposed. The key is experimentation, if you don't like what is happening, you can always start over! (Lacquer thinner or sandpaper works great!)
How does the hanger/French cleat work?Screw the supplied cleat level on the wall using drywall anchors or whatever the application requires. The canvas, if you turn it over, has "legs" that are made to fit between the cleat and your wall. Art will hang flat to the wall and always be level. For larger paintings studding the cleat at one spot is recommended.

How do I seal what I don’t want to rust or tarnish? For maintenance free outdoor applications, once the desired finish is reached, a high quality U/V resistant clear coat is best which is available at any hardware or automotive store. To avoid shine a "dead flat", or "rubbed effect" clear coat is best. Our experience has taught us that you get what you pay for so don't skimp on this one, the cheaper brands will yellow with time. Now for indoor application and a beautiful, durable finish we use bowling alley paste wax!
Is there a price break if I order more than one?Yes. We have several packages available that will make purchasing your canvas even more cost effective. If we don’t have what you want, don’t be afraid to ask, we're here to work with you.
